Clay Station Road Bridge Repair

The Clay Station Road bridge at Browns Creek, located 1.2 miles north of Twin Cities Road is closed for emergeny repairs.

SacDOT closed the bridge in May after inspections discovered the bridge faced various structural issues, including deterioration of the wooden members which were submerged into Browns Creek.  The emergency repairs included the necessary blocking and dewatering of the creek under the bridge to dry the creek bed and allow construction crews to make the necessary repairs while working under the bridge.

Before that work could begin, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife needed to approve the necessary permits to allow us to work within the creek bed.  As the construction crew began the initial repairs to the bridge, it discovered additional damage that was not identified during the initial inspection of the bridge.

The full seven-mile stretch of Clay Station Road is closed to through traffic, although residents on both sides of the Clay Station Road of Browns Creek Bridge can access their properties from their respective sides.

The bridge is closed to all traffic, including bicycles and pedestrians, to allow crews to complete the repairs, which are anticipated to be finished by October 5, 2025.

The work on the bridge also includes repairs to the pavement on and at the approaches to the bridge.

Clay Station Road carries approximately 3,000 vehicles per day.  Alta Mesa Road, Twin Cities Road, and Dillard Road continue to serve as detour routes for vehicles accessing the Herald and Wilton communities.

The cost of the emergency repair work is around $500,000.  The County has applied and is awaiting approval of the Highway Bridge Program to help fund the replacement of the infrastructure.  The estimated full replacement cost is $10 million.
