South Sacramento Safe Routes to School Project

​Background

This project will improve pedestrian and resurface roadway pavement facilities at various locations in South Sacramento (District 2). The project includes the installation of a widened sidewalk, speed humps, refreshed striping, sidewalk ramps to current ADA standards, and the installation of a median island and video detection at MLK Boulevard and 44th Avenue.

Project Benefits

  • Improved safety for bicyclists and pedestrians at MLK Boulevard and 44th Avenue by adding a median island and video detection for the existing midblock crossing.  
  • Improved safety for pedestrians and the disabled by adding ADA compliant sidewalk ramps at street crossings.
